Washington, DC — Seventeen local conducts have received national recognition from Public Technology, Inc., (PTI) for 22 initiatives that tap the power of technology to improve service to citizens, intersect costs and boost revenues. “There's a fate of innovation at the local level” noted PTI President Costis Toregas in announcing the winners of PTI's 1996 Technology Achievement Awards. “And with devolution, the states and the fed increasingly will gaze to the locals, because we're the craziest.”

Winners included:

Norfolk, Va. - Community and Economic Development;

Aurora, Colo - Computer Technology and Telecommunications;

the Fort Worth, Texas, Police Department — Criminal Justice;

Montgomery shire Md. - Energy;
