Possess of razor sharp comic timing...
Possess of razor sharp comic timing and a touching vulnerability, Stephen Spinella, the actor who played Prior forward Broadway and in several other productions, consummately embodied this paradox, embracing the character's stereotype with the two ease and pride and displaying a flinty bravery through every part of much of his ordeal. While Justin Kirk, with his delicate features, tousled hair, and tall, willowy frame, has the right physical expect for the character, his performance in the HBO adaptation bear up unders in comparison with Spinella's, in the greatest degree notably with regard to the more outrageous surface qualities of the character. For example, while a marksman of Kirk in the opening importances of the mutual dream show between Prior and Harper displays him in repose decked disclosed to resemble Gloria Swanson circa nightfall Boulevard, he displays little ease in drag one time he begins to speak. Moreover, from first to last the film Kirk generally furnishs a muted version of Prior's stereotypical characteristics; rather than embracing these qualities like Spinella, the actor looks to be underplaying them.
