BARBARA SIMERKA is Associate Professor of Spanish at Queen College/CUNY She is the author of Discourses of Empire: in opposition to Epic Literatures in Early recent Spain (Pennsylvania State UP 2003) and has published articles in journals including Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, Cervantes, Revista de estudios hispanicos, and Comparative Literary Studies.
