What plants apart this grant is Baumol's distinctive three-prong approach to research. While it is everyday for researchers to present their finished (or nearly finished) works in seminars, Baumol and his team will come together peer workshops to discuss early drafts with the intent to dissolve issues as a working form into groups This early touch point will nurse a collaborative environment designed to elicit a creative discussion and inspire additional research. The collection also plans to develop a comprehensive curriculum for entrepreneurship scholars that it hopes will be a pattern for others initiating a teaching program in the field. Finally, the assemblage plans to follow a guiding principle that Baumol calls "Middle Think": a mid-point between esoteric, niche research and grand generalizations that will yield useful, and defensible, knowledge. NYU Stern's Berkley Center will award individual researchers smaller grants from the larger Kauffman Foundation grant. The grants, which will be allocated by dint of a committee comprised of Professor Baumol and his colleagues at the Berkley Center will be evaluated in succession the quality and promise of the research proposals submitted and the manor in which the stocks are applied.
