In July the Council onward Graduate Medical Education (COGME) issued its report, "Physician Workforce Policy Guidelines for the U for 2000-2020" According to this report, the United States be in want ofs 24,000 to 27,000 new physicians by means of year through 2020 to avoid a significant shortage of physicians through the next 15 years. It also states that specialty distribution of those novel physicians should be decided through marketplace not policy goals. The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) believes that this goe against evidence encouraging primary care education. The AAFP will be presenting an evidence-based subject of attention to the Congress of Delegates in October at their annual scientific assembly, describing the general family physicians workforce and projecting further invest based on recent trends. Daniel Spogen MD chair of the AAFP Commission forward Education, stated that allowing marketplace demands to dictate the distribution of specialties may not improve the quality of or access to the greatest in quantity appropriate medical care.
