In the past sum of two units years, more than 15,000 residents in the San Francisco Bay Area community of Alameda shire have found a way to save coin on garbage bills, cut down onward water use and get a released soil conditioner, all while helping their local guidance meet state mandated waste reduction goals.

They have done this at taking advantage of a subsidized dwelling compost bin distribution program spearheaded at the Alameda County Waste Management Authority (ACWMA) and the Alameda shire Recycling Board.

The ACWMA is a joint-powers agency comprised of 17 public agencies, primarily cities, in Alameda shire In partnership with the Recycling Board, a panel of make choice ofed officials and experts in the field of recycling and waste reduction, the Authority has evolveed and promoted the bin distribution program.

"Home composting is a simple, cost-effective way to withhold organics out of the landfill," says Program Coordinator Teresa Eade.
