As Ada shire seat and the state capital, Boise, Idaho, has grown rapidly for the past several years making it difficult to maintain up-to-date map parts for use by county departments.

Before the introduction of a geographic information order (GIS), the Ada County sheriff's department reprinted its map work every two years, individually drafting and copying updated pages, a proces that was expensive and time-consuming.

Because of this, the sheriffs department decided to automate the production proces of the 900-page main division that aids department dispatchers in helping police officers locate crime displays and firemen or paramedics locate sudden [i]or[/i] unexpected occurrence scenes.
